Speaker Profile
Mumina Wa-Kyendo is an engineer, author and public speaker interested in Africa's leadership, citizenship, institutional development and socio-economic transformation. Engineer Wa-Kyendo holds a First Class degree in Civil engineering, a Masters degree in Transport Engineering, and a MBA from University of Nairobi and United States International University respectively. He is a certified Arbitrator and expert in alternative dispute resolution mechanism. Engineer Wa-Kyendo has served in many countries in Africa and for 35 years was in the trenches building transport infrastructure including roads, railways and airports, in charge of billions of dollar projects.
During his work life, he witnessed the cycle of underdevelopment in Africa, enabled by Africa's twin problem of corruption and poor leadership, two symbiotic evils that have pulled us backwards.
In his first book, Africa in Search for Transition Towards Responsible Citizens, Engineer Wa-Kyendo asks why the citizen, the very victim of the vice, has allowed the culture of corruption to entrench itself in the society?
In his second book, Reclaim. Reset. Recreate. An Engineer's Blueprint to the Africa we Deserve, he proposes a series of actions that would reclaim our sovereignty as people, reset our systems to work for the people and provide a platform to create the future we want.

What Motivates Engineer Wa-Kyendo
Mumina Wa-Kyendo was born in 1964, at Lita village in Machakos. Mumina joined Mutondoni Primary school at six and started a journey of academic and professional achievement, being amongst the best students in Kabaa and Kagumo High Schools respectively, obtaining a first-class degree in Civil engineering degree at University of Nairobi in 1988, and going on to win a DAAD scholarship to do Master’s degree in Transport Engineering. He has an MBA from the United States International University in Nairobi and is also a certified Arbitrator and expert in Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms. He has immense experience in development of transport infrastructure systems.
